About the project
My name is Christopher Cash, a 70-year-old recently retired Software Manager from San Diego, California. I’ve been a singer and songwriter since childhood, and making original music has always been my passion.

My submission, “Sacred Heart,” came from a deeply personal experience. On a whim, I looked up my first girlfriend, Diane, on Facebook. I was thrilled to see she was happy, with a family of her own. She had purple streak in her hair that told me the wild girl I dated back in the 70’s was still shining brightly.

When I checked back in 2018, I learned she had passed away suddenly. Though we’d only stayed loosely connected, the news hit me hard. Diane had always been fun, adventurous, and exceptionally kind.
We originally met in a very pre-Internet way. In the early ’70s, you could call a phone number to hear the time, and the line doubled as an impromptu “party line.” Teenagers would shout out their phone numbers behind the automated voice, hoping someone interesting would call. That’s how Diane and I found each other.

She came from a strict Catholic family and attended Sacred Heart School, which always made me smile considering the playful, rebellious side she shared with me. We had great times together, and I’ve always cherished those memories. Losing her left the world feeling a bit dimmer, but, as the song says, like a “cool moonbeam,” I still feel her presence.

After retiring earlier this year, I decided to focus fully on my art. I had never made a music video before and felt most modern ones lacked a sense of sincerity. I wanted to create something real and personal for Diane.
